PHILIPPINE ARMY: Champ the AFP-PNP-PCG Olympics 2018

    Soldier Athletes from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine National Police (PNP) and Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) took a break from their normal routine work as the AFP-PNP-PCG Olympics commenced last September 27, 2018. The opening ceremony was held at the Philippine Army Grandstand, Fort Andres Bonifacio, Taguig City.

    This was a month-long event which was joined by the respective athletes of the different Major Services and units of the AFP, PNP and the PCG. The games was held simultaneously at the different sports facilities of said units. This competition was a customary activity, it is held yearly to promote wellness, enhance physical fitness and to develop discipline and camaraderie among the members of the security sector.

    Among the events were Relay, Arnis, Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Chess, Cycling, Dragon Boat, Football, Golf, Judo, Karatedo, Sepak Takraw, Shooting, Softball, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Lawn Tennis, Track and Field, Triathlon, Volleyball and Wrestling.

    The different teams committed to give their best for the game but like any other sports meet, only one team will be announced as the over-all champion. This year, the Philippine Army ruled the event with 13 gold, 7 silver and 2 bronze medals; and was declared as the over-all champion. They succeeded to take hold of the Golds on the following events: Relay run for both the Generals and Field Grade officers, Arnis, Basketball (Officers), Chess, Cycling, Dragon Boat, Golf, Karatedo, Sepak Takraw, Shooting, Lawn Tennis, Track and Field, Triathlon and Volleyball (Women). The Philippine Air Force meanwhile got the 2nd place; Philippine National Police landed in 3rd place; the Philippine Navy and Philippine Coast Guard took 4th and 5th place respectively.

    The event was a rousing success from the start until the culmination. The games served as an opportunity for our troopers to loosen up from their usual work routine and further enhanced the camaraderie among the military and security personnel of our nation in line with the AFPs thrust of promoting Jointness among the various law enforcement agencies. The different sporting events did not fail in bringing forth the Army’s fighting spirit and our never say die attitude as they showcased their enthusiasm to succeed. And like true gentle warriors, the sportsmanship remained evident even when victory wasn’t on our side which earned the respects of all competitors.

    The culminating ceremony was graced by no less than the Commanding General of the Philippine Army Major General Macairog S Alberto, who lauded the event with praise and was very much delighted on the over-all accomplishment of the Philippine Army contingent.
