Dedication and Service

“Boni-aide” is a term/ title given to a persona inside the camp, of whom a civilian and is responsible for all-around maintenance and services. Part of its daily routine were sweeping, trimming of shrubs and maintaining the cleanliness of the of his/her assigned area.

A boni-aide assigned at the St. Michael Chapel was hailed as the Most Outstanding Civilian Personnel 2018 of the Philippine Army during the 57th Founding Anniversary of the Headquarters and Headquarters Support Group, PA last 13 JULY 2018.

Ms Monica E. Pedrera known as “Ate Monica”, is from Lundayan, Southern Leyte. Currently residing together with her elder siblings at Phase 2, 14, Blk 47 Pinagsama Village, Western Bicutan. After her high school, they went to Manila for a better living. But life is a though race for her. She cannot get into a regular job due to lack of education. She was a former maintenance crew and assistant cook in a restaurant at Binondo, Manila before being a boni-aide.

Ate Monica is a 64 years old maintainer and was a worker of the camp since 1978 and believed to be the most senior among all boni-aides. She started working in HPA since she was only 24 years old. It was all thanks to the late Col Resma who happen to be her “kababayan” and helped her get in the job.

Before St. Michael Chapel, Ate Monica was then designated to the CG PA quarters. She earns 10, 200 Php monthly and still insufficient for her family’s monthly expenditures. Most of her allowances were spent on transportation, from her house to the camp, back and forth. She could still remember the time she has to borrow money from co-workers for her to provide her family needs before pay day.

“Aged yet strong”, that is how she see herself. She cannot forget her experience as a boni-aide when she accidentally got her 3 fingers cut by a mower. Ate Monica possesses the character of a woman like no other.  She was able to treat her co-workers properly and she has no record of absences. Amidst all the sacrifices she’s been through, her hard work brings her to first ever recognition. As she was about to reach the peak of her service in the next year, may she serve as an inspiration to all.
